Suggestions for my trip to vancouver?

Published by admin at 7:52 am under vacations

I will spend december vacations in vancouver (two weeks), I would like you to give me recommendations of places in the city and cities nearby, to visit. I am a student and I’ve heard it’s a very expensive city, Any suggestions?

"Hi"…well if you are a student then I know from past experience that you’ll be on a budget and want to get as much in as you can..lol

The first thing you may want to consider is where you are going to stay and I will tell you we have some good "Youth Hostels" in Vancouver inasmuch as we do cater to youth and young travellers from "all over" the world !

Here’s a list of some of them….my personal recommendation is the YWCA…and it’s in a great central location in the downtown core and in a great area…but the hostels are good too and may give you an opportunity to meet a travelling companion.

One of the things you should get is a "Transit Pass" which is good on the buses, the Sky Train, and the Sea Bus ( inexpensive harbour tour to North Vancouver)….this gives you access to to Grouse Mountain and all of the outlying areas ( Burnaby, New Westrminster etc etc.) and even taking public transportation all the way to Victoria on Vancouver Island which if you can you should see as it is our Provincial Capital and quite beautiful also.!

Greyhound and Perimiter Transportartion go to Whistler (Home for the 2010 winter Olympics) from Vancouver and that’s certainly worth a look at…the Sea to Sky Highway is quite spectacular and rather interesting at certain moments ! lol

The downtown has a varity of things to do, from Granville Island, to Gas Town,Robson St., China Town, Stanley Park, Vancouver Art Gallery, the Lookout, Vancouver Aquarium, Vancouver Museum and Observatory, Imax Theatre and great shopping and lots of Pubs and great multinational "food" places ! *lol

I should also let you know Vancouver is a safe city and friendly and comfortable to walk around and you’ll even get "Hello’s" and some "Merry Christmas’s" along the way !

One of the things that you may very well enjoy is the "Antropology Museum" at U.B.C…it is world class actually and explains B.C. from it’s earliest days ( Ice Age )and has one of the best "First Nations" exhibits, bar none, anywhere in the world…seriously !

If there is a hockey game at the "Garage" you must promise me that you will go…that’s required by Canadian law actually ! ( Just kidding lol)

As a student you may find Granville St. quite interesting and of course there are degree’s of interesting !

Anyway there is tons to do and you won’t be bored !

Here’s some interactive maps…for navigation purposes and a good web site as regards Vancouver……

Hope that helps ya and a warm "Welcome" to Vancouver ! *S* (Michael C)

December eh? Bring your rain coat and ski gear:)

    Check out Whistler!
You can head over to the Island but there’s not much to do in the winter
Banff too, although not exactly near Vancouver.

In Vancouver definitely go up Grouse Mountain.

well..the answer above me kind of said everything I was going to say and more so…yeah. Listen to his advice =) And Granville Island is a really cool place to visit, in my opinion. Bring your raincoat, and umbrella….you will need it.

I’d like to mount a campaign to encourage people not to go anywhere. Travel has become so expensive and unpleasant that it’s hard to understand why people don’t stay home.
Why are we crowding our highways and airports to get someplace else? Newspapers and magazines are filled with ads trying to get us to travel. They want us to go somewhere – anywhere but home.

Go to the usual Stanley Park and Grouse Mountain. Check out Whistler or Cypress Bowl if you like winter sports. At night , you can check out the night life on Granville Street. You can’t really miss it if you are on a budget and stay in a hostel.
Cheapest place to drink in Vancouver, The Cambie.

Vancouver is an awesome city. I lived there for 6 months. About being expensive, it depends on what are you planing to do there. You can stay at the YWCA Hotel at the heart of downtown Vancouver.
You shouldn’t miss Grouse Mountain, Deep Cove, Stanley Park, and Metro-town for shopping ;)
