Parents of 3+ kids, how often do you go on family vacations?
And what is your occupation? Where do you usually travel? By car, or by plane? Do you feel its important to do things like this with your family?
Person with most thumbs up gets best answer
I’m a university professor and my husband is a psychologist. We have 3 kids. They are in college and too busy to go on vacations with us now, but when they were younger, we towed a camper all over the country with them. We once flew to Japan and stayed with a family there for 3 weeks. We have seen national historic sites, natural wonders, stayed in luxury condos (once or twice) and canoed into the Canadian wilderness. We hiked to the top of Mt. Fuji, got lost in confusing streets whose names we couldn’t read, and paid our respects at ancient temples and Samurai castles.
We crammed a lot into the few short years when they were all young enough to be willing to go anywhere with us and old enough to do fun things. I can’t say we enjoyed every moment. We were often tired, bored, cold, hot, or wet. Sometimes we spent too much money. Often we argued and yelled at each other. But when you’re all in it together, on the road with no one else to turn to, you figure out how to accommodate each other.
We also met many unforgettable people, learned a lot about nature, geography, and other cultures, took hundreds of pictures, and made memories that our family will keep forever. That’s the true value of family vacations. If you have the chance to travel as a family, go. You won’t regret it.

it varies; typically 2-3 times a year. i’m a stay-at-home mom and my husband is a university professor. we sometimes fly but usually drive. i think it’s important to spend dedicated time with family and it’s fun for all of us and educational for the kids to be exposed to different places, different scenery, different people, and different cultures.

My fam, is a family of 5. (2 parents, 3 kids)
We go about 3 times a year. Once, in the winter to florida (we take a plane) and twice to Toronto (by car). My Mom and Dad own a Circuit City, so that would be their occupation I guess.
We like doing it, because we love spending the time together since it’s hard through the year, because Mom & Dad work all the time, I’m in college, my sister is in High school and my brother is in elementary.

I am currently a stay at home mother (have numerous investment from when I did work) and my husband is a surgeon.
Where we travel varies. However Australia is our most common international destination as we have a holiday home there and my family lives there.
We go on at least two holidays a year usually one domestic and one international. In additional to our yearly winter ski holiday.
I think family holidays help strengthen the family bond. Domestics holidays help the children appreciate and learn about their home country while international holidays expose the children to different religions, cultures and languages; I consider family holidays important.

We are a family of 5 plus 2 step kids plus daughters boyfriend and grand-baby. We try and go on vacation once a year. We live in the midwest so we usually go south. I save for this so my kids can have memories of vacationing as a family. I am in school to be a nurse and my husband is a chemical engineer. Sounds like we have money but really not the case. I receive very little/nothing from my ex and my hubby pays dearly for his 2. It’s just something I do and my kids/grandchild love it! Hope this helps.

Hmm. Depends on your definition of vacation. Pure just-for-fun vacations, about once a year. Maybe twice, but they’re low-key vacations.
But we travel at least 3 other times a year with my job. To Regina (SK), Scottsdale, Tulsa and sometimes Albuquerque. Not much in the way of vacation destinations, but it’s a lot of fun and the kids are bugging me about when the next one is the day we get home. We see all our friends from all over the country, there’s always something to do, we usually stay in a hotel with other people who are there for the event, the kids go and have big parties in the pool and hang around the lobby, go around the grounds together in groups on golf carts. They just love it, it’s a blast for everyone.
To shows, usually one way by car and one by plane. We have other people on our team and so we take turns with the long drive down.
Vacation-vacations, usually by plane. It’s just easier with a toddler.
I think it’s very important. For both work and play. It gets you out of your box and is invaluable experience.

I’m a stay at home mom, and my husband installs telephone and internet access. We haven’t gone on a "vacation" in 5 years. Then again, the two youngest children have health problems, and we moved 1500 miles away within the last 5 years. I also consider a vacation to be a week or more away from home, in a hotel, with a rental. Went went to Walt Disney for 2 days last year, but we drove. The most important thing we regularly do together as a family is golf. Even my 2 year old has a golf club. He puts his ball about two feet from the hole and putts.

I’m not a parent…but my dad does real estate stuff, and my family (7 of us) goes on a big vacation (to another state…usually colorado to go skiing) once a year, and we always drive. We go on mini-vacations a few times a year (like….we’ll spend a few days at the beach, or we’ll go camping, or we’ll spend a day at an amusement park, etc.).
I personally do feel it’s important to do things like this with family. I’m sure my dad does to or else I wouldn’t have grown up being able to do all this stuff
