Why do americans and canadians and other countries get school vacations earlier than mexicans?

I’d like to visit Portland Oregon, and Vancouver WA on my next vacation. I’ve read several posts that racisms can exists there against blacks and hispanics. Is this true? I think is a beautiful place to visit and vacation with my family, Columbia River, Hells Canyon, etc. , but would not like to experience racism. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

racism exits every where! their is less of it in portland so much less its almost non existent. most of the state is the same way except for that southern 1/8th of the state but that is a small part. more than likely Oregon is the moost progressive state in the union!

I applied for my canadian citizenship in Vancouver in March, 2009 and I got my book. However, I still haven’t receive any notice about when my citizenship exam is. I am planning for a long vacation in May and June and I am really scared I am going to miss the exam and have to reapply again. So, my questions are: is there a summer period when the citizenship and immigration office is closed? If I miss my exam, do I have to reapply again? Thank you very much.

NO the CIC offices in Canada do NOT close, for vacation. They are open 5 days a week all year long. Why would you think that a entire office staff could be allowed to go on vacation, all at the same time ? We don’t do things that way in Canada.

Either check on "Craigslist" or go to "VRBO.com" which stands for vacation rentals by owner. I just booked a self contained suite (living and bedroom, kitchenette, bathroom and own patio) in Vancouver today. It’s actually a B&B, so we’ll get breakfast every morning , also free parking in a quiet residential neighbourhood.

Alright to be fair and answer the question, this would be impossible. You cannot stay at any Hotel unless you are an adult. And crossing the border, forget it.

I will be flying to Vancouver for a vacation in October as I cant fly during the summer months due to work commitments, so I was wondering what the average weather would be like in October as I know this is the fall season, Is there loads of rain and not many sunny days or is it still good enough? I am from England and October over here is not weather that one would wish to take a vacation but I have no idea of Vancouver at that time of the year, I have been there before but never in October, many thanks in advance

I’m a bit more pessimistic than the other two answers because I would say to expect a lot of rain. Last fall was actually fairly nice and I remember it being quite sunny over the Thanksgiving weekend, but generally by October it is already quite rainy and cold. You can check out weather history. According to Wikipedia the average temperature is 10 degrees. You can expect the weather to be fairly similar to the weather in London.

If I were you I wouldn’t come in October. If you’ve already booked your flight though then just cross your fingers. Vancouver is still a beautiful city any time of year, but definitely nicer in other months.

You’ll need a passport. Are you planning on going alone? …If you’re only 16, I don’t think it’s a good idea to travel to another country by yourself.
