Should teachers on unpaid vacations be expected to do some works during the summer?

I am a preschool teacher, currently on unpaid vacations, and my boss keeps on contacting me to ask me to write last minute progress reports, recommendations, etc. She even wants me to make myself available for a 4-hour meeting on a Saturday or Sunday at some point during the summer… I am so totally flabagasted by her requests that I almost wonder if this is standard practice. And I don’t even know where to start to tell her that I think it is out of line -I have already refused to take care of her previous requests, telling her that I had another job over the summer (still have to pay the bills!!) and that I did not have time to write progress reports but she keeps on asking… I would love some input from other teachers or school administrators.

I ended up offering to go to work for a couple of hours on one day to do some prep work for next year because I wanted to be the one making decisions on a specific project. But I refused to write progress reports for some parents who have just decided to put their children in another school and suddenly need letters of recommendation. I also specified that I would not be available for the remainder of the summer because I really needed the break. As some of you pointed out, I am a little sick of people who think teachers should be ever so thankful for having summers off and we should just do everything we are asked for without complaining. I am NOT paid during the summers. I actually wait tables 6 days a week to be able to pay for my mortgage. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE having the summers off. But I also know I am a very valuable teacher and I don’t feel the need to suck up to anyone for fear to lose my job

I’m a high school principal and never in a million years would I ask teachers to do anything unless I was prepared to pay them. I don’t know if you are in a union, but what your administrator is doing is pretty "ballsy". If you volunteered to do something, that is one thing, but to have your administrator request this is not right. Your salary is based on 180 days (or however long your contract is) of work and no more.

Will Obama tax everyone more so we can all have govt funded vacations just like the other fascist economies?

Hitler and Mussolini saw vacations as a "right" and used tax money to send everyone on vacations once a year. Can you imagine a cruise in the Carribbean courtesy of the democrat party and US taxpayer? I see it being close on the horizon. How else will dems buy votes?

LOL I do expect, however, for the entitled to start whining that when they are ill they lose money and need to govt to pay for them not to work. I expect that their will be a group of people with sad stories that talk about losing their home bc they could not work while recovering from a serious injury or illness and those of us who can work should be helping them.

my vacations are going to start from 5th June. i am having nothing to do. i want to spend my time on creative works like- drawings, paintings, designings etc. please give me some tips aaaabout painting or any other thing with which i can pass my time.

u can join some hobby class or just start making something creative like oil paintings on canvas. there are so many free online art and painting tips ,lessons and projects available…..try them. good luck. enjoy your vacations.

Is it normat that my psychotherapist takes extended vacations in Christmas, Easter and Summer?

While I was in the middle of a therapy, my therapist said that its was about Christmas and had to leave for Cyprus to enjoy the days with her parents.

If she is entitled to take extended vacations in Christmas, Easter and summer,

a. Why shouldn’t I have the same rights to leave therapy for equal number of months for my personal reasons?

b. Why shouldn’t I have an alternative months during which I should feel the therapist’s presence and role?

Last I heard, a person has the right to work or not, as s/he wishes. (Of course s/he runs the risk that the work will disappear.)

You have the right to acquire and dismiss therapists as you wish. I believe a therapist has a corresponding right to accept or decline patients.

Unless you have been involuntarily committed, you have the right to leave therapy.

Question (b) is not quite coherent.

Bottom line:
There are many more therapists than would-be patients. Unless you are extremely wealthy, you’d be wise to be grateful for what you’re getting.

I heard i can deduct my vacations to vegas on my taxes?

My big brother Micky told me i can deduct my vegas vacations. Micky said he did it when he went to Barbados. His rational is if you answer blackberry pages, send emails or cell calls its deductable because you are using this trip for vacation purposes. The total cost of my vegas vacations is around 12k this year

You and your big brother are playing with fire. From the information that you have indicated in your question, and I see no way possible on how you would even think your Vegas trip is deductible. You mess with Uncle Sam’s money and Uncle Sam will mess with you. How can you prove this trip to be business related (deductible)? I hope you two get audited.

How long do other country summer vacations last?

in america, our summer vacation’s like 2-3 month long.
however, my cousins who are in china, she only had 1 month of vacation and she had to go back to school . & she needed to go to a dorm . as in the dorms college students go too .
Shes the same age as me, so shes in 10th grade too .
what about other countries? are there even shorter then 1 month? are there some countries who dont even have summer vacations for their students?

In Australia you usually get 6 to 7 weeks holiday depending on what school you go to and what state you are in.

My husband I have about 10 vacations left TAN. We would like to get rid of them. Any ideas?

After the Presidential election, look at the states which voted for your candidate, then only take future vacations in those states. At least in this way you’ll know that you will be surrounded by mostly like minded people while on vacation.

If you’re a republican, that could be very boring..with the exception of Texas of course.

If your planning on taking a vacation as a family there are a few places you could go.. First off i would reccomend Orlando, FL… disney world, islands of adventure and tons tons more to do… Theres everything from seaworld to theme parks out the butt! Of course right now expessially there are tons of great deals! Second.. maybe Pigeon Forge, TN its perfect this time of year… christmas is here and the whole town is light up with christmas lights and themed of christmas! Its in the smokie mountains and theres alot to do there as well. First off you could stay in a cabin close to town… where youd have a hot tub.. pool table and tons of extras in your cabin. As well as dollywood is close and tons of fun! Lots to do and your family will not get bored! And of course Las Vegas depending on the age group! All in all i have used a great website to book all of our family vacations… they offer great deals on hotels tickets and everything you would possably need on your vacation.
