The Capilano Suspension Bridge is located just across the water in North Vancouver. It was recently listed on Nat Geo Traveler’s Top 50 Places in the world. Is it a tourist trap or does it live up to the hype? Well, let’s put it this way: its a little bit of both.

Which Jamaican city is the best for family vacations?

Published by admin under vacations

Do you have any hotels you would sugest beside the all inclusives?

Montego Bay and Ocho Rios have proven well for families. There are a lot of family oriented activities and resorts in either area.

I, personally, prefer Ocho Rios. Negril is for party people.

What’s the best way to get from Seattle to Vancouver?

Published by admin under vacations

I’m going on vacation. 3 days in Seattle and 3 in Vancouver. What are the must-do things in both cities?
Does anybody know a tour that would show me the cities and surrounding areas in Spanish?

My recommendations for Seattle are:

Pike Place Market:

http://www.pikeplacemarket.org/frameset.asp?flash=true

~ I would recommend parking in their garage when you first visit the city. It’s accessible from both the waterfront & 1st Ave, which makes it very convenient.
~ Pike’s Market is a MUST-SEE. It’s the oldest market in Seattle, has 3 or 4 levels of shops, restaurants, etc. Go on an empty stomach, because there are numerous food vendors and the food is delicious!!
~ Home to the very first Starbucks!

Pioneer Square/Underground Tour

http://www.pioneersquare.org/

http://www.undergroundtour.com/

~You can walk down 1st avenue to Pioneer Square from the Market. Pioneer Square is where Seattle began! Lots of shops, restaurants, antiques.
~ Take the Underground Tour for sure! They take you under the city streets and teach you (in a very entertaining way) about the history of Seattle.

Ferry ride to Bremerton or Bainbridge:

http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/

~ Walk to ferry dock from Pioneer Square. Catch a ferry by foot, bring your camera…it’s a beautiful view of the city. Once across, you have to step off for a few minutes, then you can ride back.

Seattle Waterfront:

http://www.cityofseattle.net/tour/water.htm

~ From the ferry dock, you can stroll along the waterfront back to the parking garage. Waterfront is mostly shops and restaurants. My favorite is the "Ye Olde Curiosity Shop", which is also a museum of sorts.

Space Needle/Seattle Center:

http://www.seattlecenter.com

~ Goes without saying that you have to see the Space Needle!! It’s a Seattle landmark! You should check the calender on seattlecenter.com to see what else is going on there when you are there.

CityPass Attractions:

http://www.citypass.com/city/seattle.html?id=59ELD5sa

~ The cheapest way to see alot of stuff!
~ Woodland Park Zoo (We have an excellent zoo!)

http://www.zoo.org/

~ Pacific Science Center (Great for kids/families)

http://www.pacsci.org

~ Seattle Aquarium (Currently remodeling, but still fun!)

http://www.seattleaquarium.org

~ Seattle Harbor Tour (Learn all about Seattle from the water!)

http://www.argosycruises.com

~ Museum of Flight (Alot about WWI, WWII, & Boeing)

http://www.museumofflight.org

The attractions I’d recommend in Vancouver:

Harbour Center Tower:

http://www.vancouverlookout.com

~View of Vancouver from the top! Make sure you convert your currency before going here though…otherwise, they’ll charge you a little more.

Gastown:

http://www.gastown.org

~ Their historic district. Similar to Pioneer Square in Seattle.

Granville Island:

http://www.seegranvilleisland.com

~ Public market, shops, food, etc.

Stanley Park:

http://www.city.vancouver.bc.ca/parks/parks/stanley/

~ Great walk, view of the city. Lots of little things to see and do here.

Grouse Mountain:

http://www.grousemountain.com/

~ This was fun. You can take a ski lift up and get a fantastic view of the city on a clear day. They also have bears, a logger show, etc.

Capilano Suspension Bridge:

http://www.capbridge.com

~ More on the touristy side, but lots of fun.

Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge:

http://www.lynncanyonparkguide.bc.ca/aboutPark.html

~ Less tourists, more rustic, much more scenic.
(Sorry I am unable to provide any information about Spanish tours)

Has anyone ever taken the Three vacations for the price of one offers that has come across their fax?

Published by admin under vacations

My fiance received a fax in her office about three vacations for the price of one from the "Corporate Travel Department." She works for a rather large company, but I dont believe they have a formal travel department. I, myself, have received similar faxes in the past at my business, but have thrown them away. Considering gas prices this summer, I figure it might be worth looking into. Anyone ever done this? What was your personal experience?

Hello
I would say Scam. I’m a Police Dispatcher in U.K, and we would get loads of them at the Station. The ones we recieved , you had to fax back, at about £1+ ($2) minute for info, or it was a high price phone number to call back.

Parents of 3+ kids, how often do you go on family vacations?

Published by admin under vacations

And what is your occupation? Where do you usually travel? By car, or by plane? Do you feel its important to do things like this with your family?

Person with most thumbs up gets best answer

I’m a university professor and my husband is a psychologist. We have 3 kids. They are in college and too busy to go on vacations with us now, but when they were younger, we towed a camper all over the country with them. We once flew to Japan and stayed with a family there for 3 weeks. We have seen national historic sites, natural wonders, stayed in luxury condos (once or twice) and canoed into the Canadian wilderness. We hiked to the top of Mt. Fuji, got lost in confusing streets whose names we couldn’t read, and paid our respects at ancient temples and Samurai castles.

We crammed a lot into the few short years when they were all young enough to be willing to go anywhere with us and old enough to do fun things. I can’t say we enjoyed every moment. We were often tired, bored, cold, hot, or wet. Sometimes we spent too much money. Often we argued and yelled at each other. But when you’re all in it together, on the road with no one else to turn to, you figure out how to accommodate each other.

We also met many unforgettable people, learned a lot about nature, geography, and other cultures, took hundreds of pictures, and made memories that our family will keep forever. That’s the true value of family vacations. If you have the chance to travel as a family, go. You won’t regret it.

What should I do for my next two vacations?

Published by admin under vacations

I’m drawing a total blank on where to go for my next two vacations. I have a week off in March, and approximately 2-3 weeks off in June. I’m willing to go anywhere and do anything. I went to Paris and Rome last summer. I’ve been to the Philippines, Vancouver, and on cruises to Mexico and the Bahamas recently as well.

Has anyone done an international vacation that they found amazing? What was your itinerary? I’m budget conscious, but I’m willing to fly/cruise anywhere. I’m looking forward to some suggestions!!

Why not visit my beautiful city, Melbourne.
There is so much to see in the CBD and the Victorian Countryside.

In fact the whole of "Aussie-land" is waiting for you to explore it.

Whatever you can do overseas, I am sure you could find the equivalent downunder.

Check out what Melbourne has to offer for a start…(this is a work in progress mind you)

If I take a professional position at a college will I get long vacations and a relaxed working atmosphere?

Published by admin under vacations

Do people who work as employees at a colleges get time off during Christmas vacation, spring vacation and summer vacation just like students? I’m curious because going to work every single day and only getting a small vacation is not appealing to me and therefore, I would like to work in a school setting with a relaxed atmosphere and long vacations. Does anybody understand my reasoning, because people who work at colleges seem to enjoy their jobs.

My husband works at a university, on staff – not as a professor. He does get school breaks off, with some small exceptions. He also gets 2 weeks vacation per year, plus sick days. And the benefits are good. However, he doesn’t get summers off – his is a year-round position. If your position is not year-round, you would get summers off. Depends on the position.
